You eat and then need to lie down. That post-meal slump isn't normal! It's your blood sugar responding to a system that's already working too hard.

When insulin signaling is off, your body sends loud signals for quick fuel. This isn't a willpower issue.

5. Weight that won't move no matter what you do

You've cleaned up your diet. You're exercising consistently. The scale doesn't budge or the weight keeps creeping up. Insulin resistance makes fat storage the default and fat burning nearly impossible.

Here's what the standard panel misses: fasting insulin.

Most panels check fasting glucose. Some check HbA1c. But fasting insulin is the marker that shows how hard your pancreas is working to keep glucose stable, and it is rarely ordered.

Functionally, I want to see fasting insulin between 2 and 6. A result of 12, 14, or 15 are all within conventional "normal" range, but it tells me the body is compensating significantly. That compensation is the problem. And it won't show up on your standard bloodwork.

I also look at HOMA-IR, a calculated index that combines fasting glucose and fasting insulin into a single picture of how much resistance is actually present. Together, these two markers tell me what's happening metabolically and how long it's likely been building.

This is what changes when you're looking at the right data.
