Back in 2023, COMO Magazine featured me in a piece called "The Form and Function of Good Health," looking at functional nutritional therapy as an alternative to the conventional approach to chronic health issues. I'm finally giving it a permanent home here.

Root Causes, Not Quick Fixes

The piece got at something I still say to almost every client: a lot of medications manage a symptom without anyone asking why the symptom is there in the first place. Long-term medication use can deplete the nutrients your body needs, and if nobody addresses that, you end up managing one problem while quietly creating another.

As I put it then, "I work with a lot of people who want to eventually get off medications...they haven't considered why they need the medication." That's still the question I start with. Not how do we treat this, but why is this happening in your body.

What I Was Seeing Then (and Still See Now)

Functional medicine wasn't as widely understood in Columbia in 2023 as it is now, but the core of it hasn't changed: look at the whole body, find out what's actually going on, and nourish it accordingly. "How amazing it is when a body gets truly nourished," is a line from the article that still sums up why I do this work.
